You Don’t Know Jack (But God Did)

05.28.2026

Jack woke up after another night of drinking and partying expecting the same thing he always felt: exhaustion, regret, and a headache.

Instead, he heard a voice: “This is not the life I have for you.”

Is this God? Jack wondered. Is this what God’s like? Does He talk to you?

Jack knew about church. He’d gone with his parents as a child. They had free donuts. Jack liked those.

But then college came around, and Jack landed at a Christian university. After a romantic relationship ended badly, Jack felt like he’d hit bottom.

Then he remembered the words he couldn’t shake: This is not the life I have for you.

“I needed to find out if Jesus was real,” Jack said. “I needed to discover it all for myself.”

Now a senior in college, Jack would lock himself in his room with his Bible. “That’s where I met Jesus. That’s where God started to transform me.”

He earned a master’s degree in business. The path ahead seemed obvious: get a good job, make a good salary, provide for a future family, become a good Christian man, and build a good life.

“I would have been absolutely miserable,” he said.

Then a mentor asked him a totally unexpected question. “Would you ever consider the Middle East?”

Jack had never held a conversation with a Muslim person. He said yes anyway.

“By the way,” the man told him, “you need to join an organization that trains and sends people.”

A mutual friend introduced him to TMS Global. For the first time, Jack felt like someone was helping him discern rather than simply sending him somewhere.

Jack thought he knew what came next. Raise support. Go to the Middle East. He got started.

Then one day, he opened up his email to news that the worker in the Middle East couldn’t take him on after all.

Badly disappointed, Jack thought God had closed the door.

Instead, TMS Global helped him build another path, one that led through several Muslim-majority countries.

Nine months later, Jack says he has grown in faith, confidence, and understanding who God created him to be. It feels like five years packed into nine months.

He is also beginning to learn something his mentor Joanne discovered years ago: sometimes people do not need another argument. Sometimes they need to hear a story.

Today Jack is beginning to tell biblical stories of his own. He’s living in a small, secure country, finishing his training, and setting his feet toward the Middle East. He still does not know every detail of what comes next. He’s okay with that.

Jack said yes before he knew the ending of his story. Maybe God is asking you to take a step too.
