Frequently Asked Questions
How can I support the work of TMS Global?

There are many ways that you can support the work of TMS Global, depending on your interests, gifts, and desired level of involvement. Below is a short list of ways to serve. We always welcome new ideas and a vision God may have given you.

  • Pray for TMS Global. Prayers for our cross-cultural workers, staff, and donors are essential for the ongoing work of TMS Global.

  • Give financially to the Global Fund or a cross-cultural worker of your choice. TMS Global and its cross-cultural workers are funded entirely by individuals, churches, and foundations, and receive no financial support from a particular denomination. Your contributions make a tremendous difference.

  • Volunteer. We manage a host of volunteers who serve as Mission Representatives, Activate Conference instructors, administrative helpers, or through other services. Donate your service to TMS Global.
How can I support a specific cross-cultural worker?

If you already know a cross-cultural worker you would like to support, mail a check or make an online donation specifying his/her name.

How can I arrange to have a cross-cultural worker speak to my church?

Call the office and ask for the global engagement administrative coordinator to discuss options for cross-cultural workers who are available to speak in your area.

What types of ministries is TMS Global involved with around the world?

TMS Global’s ministries include agricultural training, evangelism, church planting, discipleship, teaching, leadership development, literacy, medical work, arts ministries, teaching English as a Second Language, children’s ministry, campus ministry, well-drilling, youth ministry, relief and aid, and many others.

Who can be a cross-cultural worker with TMS Global?

Anyone who has a growing relationship with Christ and a call to cross-cultural service may apply to be a cross-cultural worker with TMS Global. Applicants must agree with our Statement of Faith. GreenLight: Gateway applicants must be at least 18 years old, and CoLab, CoWork, and Core applicants must be at least 21. We require an application and references before extending an invitation to the Candidate Assessment & Orientation (CAO) event. We conduct a psychological assessment and general interview during CAO. A few days after CAO, individuals are notified and told whether or not they will be invited to serve with TMS Global. TMS Global missionaries must raise their own financial support before departing for their location of service.

What are the benefits of serving as a cross-cultural worker with TMS Global?

TMS Global offers services that help our cross-cultural workers become effective in ministry. Drawing upon decades of ministry experience, we provide extensive training and preparation, counseling, prayer support, and centralized services to simplify cross-cultural life. Our accountants track ministry funds, provide health insurance, offer pension plans, and transfer funds internationally. Our membership in the ECFA (Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability) gives donors the assurance of financial integrity and accountability. TMS Global does not seek to micro-manage workers, but provides the logistical and decision support to help them thrive as they follow God’s call.

How is TMS Global funded?

TMS Global is funded through the generous gifts of thousands of churches, foundations, and individuals who partner with us to further the ministry. We receive 76 percent of all gifts from individuals and foundations, while the remaining portion comes from churches around the United States. Because we do not receive any denominational support or apportionments, your gifts are vital to us and to the continued growth of God’s work.

TMS Global is a member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA), an accreditation agency dedicated to helping Christian ministries earn the public’s trust through adherence to seven Standards of Responsible Stewardship. Comprised of more than 1,200 charitable, religious, missionary, social, and educational tax-exempt, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations, the ECFA’s Standards of Responsible Stewardship focus on board governance, financial transparency, integrity in fund raising, and proper use of charitable resources. In our desire to be good stewards of the resources God provides, we believe in financial accountability and transparency, and we meet the standards set by the ECFA.

Is TMS Global affiliated with a particular denomination?

No, although TMS Global is Wesleyan in heritage and beliefs. Incorporated in 1984 in Georgia, TMS Global (formerly named "The Mission Society") was originally founded as a voluntary, supplemental mission-sending agency for The United Methodist Church, but it received no funding from the denomination.

What organizations do you partner with?

TMS Global partners with Mission Next, an organization dedicated to matching workers and ministries.

TMS Global also partners with NextMove, an association of mission organizations that are committed to helping mission agencies engage with the global diaspora. TMS Global was a charter mission organization in NextMove's formation. TMS Global has contributed its findings related to diaspora to NextMove and learned from other member agencies.
