Sustained in Crisis

“The thing I was most afraid of happened, and God provided for me,” Kerry Davidson, TMS Global’s TCK care coordinator, remembers.

“He did it through people.”

While serving as a cross-cultural worker in Liberia, Kerry’s husband Joey fell gravely ill. After a harrowing drive to the capital city, their family was swept into the nightmare every cross-cultural worker dreads: medical evacuation. What she remembers most now, though, isn’t the fear — it’s the people who showed up.

In this video, Kerry tells the story in her own words — how God met her and her family in crisis, and how your partnership helped carry them through.

“One call and TMS Global was mobilized,” Kerry said.

In those first frantic hours, friends back in the States were flooding Kerry with questions while she tried to navigate the evacuation from Liberia to Germany. Becky Stephens, TMS Global’s senior director of global engagement, stepped in. “Send them all to me.” That was the last call Kerry had to field.

Behind the scenes, TMS Global staff members worked every angle from insurance to medical advice to friends waiting in Frankfurt. “I remember Laurie Drum, saying, ‘I’ll leave Spain to sit with you in Germany,” Kerry said. “I didn’t need her to do that, but it meant so much to know she was willing.”

TMS Global set up debriefing sessions that helped Kerry, Joey, and their daughter Miriam process their experience, mitigate the impact of trauma, and go back to Liberia.

Hard things don’t only happen to those serving cross-culturally. They come to all of us. Kerry knows now that in the middle of those seasons, God is present and provides, often through the people He puts in place.

“I didn’t just see TMS Global sending us,” Kerry said. “I saw them sustaining us.”

“God’s going to provide what you need. He will put people in place. He is working on your behalf.”
