Sixty-five cross-cultural witnesses training in Peru

06.29.2011

One of the most incredible events we hold each year is our missionary Orientation Training, which will be held in Peru for the first time. When, in 2007, we began conducting these training events outside the United States (our first international training location was in Brazil, where we’ve been for the past four years), we immediately saw the positive effects of teaching about cross-cultural ministry while simultaneously providing a cross-cultural experience. But there was other fruit that we could not have expected.

Christian leaders and missionaries from Brazil began attending our training. What a gift those brothers and sisters were to us! Their witness and testimonies provided insights that were invaluable to our missionaries and trainers. Not only did the Lord use these Brazilian leaders to bless and help teach us, but He used our training events to strengthen the missionary training program of our Brazilian hosts. Today, our Brazilian colleagues are training and sending out their own missionaries.

This is significant because the “center of gravity” of the Christian world has shifted away from the West. In recent decades the Church in places like Africa, South America, and Asia have been growing at phenomenal rates. What’s more, brothers and sisters from these areas are often allowed access to unreached parts of the world that are now closed to Western missionaries. Consequently, it will likely be Christians from the “global south” who will have the privilege of announcing the gospel to the world’s last unreached people group.

At our upcoming training in Peru this summer, seven countries will be represented among the trainees: Peru, Brazil, Ecuador, Haiti, Jamaica, Kenya, and the United States. Two trainees are coming as representatives of an 800,000-member African denomination that wants to be more strategically engaged in evangelizing unreached groups in Africa and beyond. We are praying that God will again use this event to raise up these nationals to continue the cycle of training and deploying missionaries from their nations to reach the world for Christ.

Please pray for our new missionaries and the trainers July 1-19. Pray for those from other nations who will join us - that the Lord would inspire them, and equip them to help mobilize the Church in their countries to join Jesus in His mission.
