Mission Society president and CEO announces plans to retire

Mission Society president and CEO Phil Granger recently announced his plans to retire at the end of 2009. Granger, who has served as The Mission Society president and CEO since December 1, 2001, is looking forward to retiring after a long and fruitful career in ministry.

Phil began his career as a certified public accountant with the firm of Ernst and Young. He worked on the corporate controllers staff at Associates Financial in the development of the first national online system in the finance industry. He was elected vice president and controller of First Federal Savings and Loan of Chicago, the tenth largest savings and loan in the country, where he served until he received God’s call to enter full-time ministry. Phil is an elder in full connection in The United Methodist Church with his membership in the Indiana Conference. He has been a pastor, conference director of finance and administration, and a district superintendent overseeing more than 70 churches. Phil served for many years on the boards of Good News (a renewal movement within The United Methodist Church) and of Hope for Today ministries in India.

Granger has earned multiple degrees including a B.A in accounting from Michigan State University; a M.B.A. in accounting and physical distribution from Michigan State University; a M.Div. in theology and family counseling from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary; and D.Min. in management in the local church and discernment planning from Oral Roberts University School of Theology.

Phil and his wife, Sue, plan to continue to be involved in ministry and spend time with their two children and four grandchildren.
