Peruvians experienced one of the longest lockdowns of any country during the pandemic, yet TMS Global workers in Huancayo continued to see Jesus transform hearts and lives during the past year.

Arthur and Mary Alice Ivey have served in Peru for 19 years. A large part of their ministry has focused on discipling people in their relationship with Jesus and then training those people to disciple others. As the discipleship groups have multiplied, tens of thousands of people have been involved in small groups all over Peru.

Antonella was discipled by Edith, and now Antonella is leading two discipleship groups for young adults. She met Jackelyn, who had moved back to Huancavelica to care for her parents who were sick with COVID-19. During her time at home, Jackelyn joined Antonella’s discipleship group and came to know Jesus as Lord!

Antonella also met Sandra and invited her to join the discipleship group. Sandra was taking university classes online, so she was able to remain in her hometown and join the group. Sandra also decided to follow Jesus as Lord while participating in the group!

Arthur and Mary Alice traveled to La Merced to encourage a church that had been unable to meet for nine months. Valentino, the church’s pastor, died of COVID-19 last summer. The Iveys met with Valentino’s widow, Sandra, and their three children. Mary Alice said, “In spite of their loss, Valentino’s family were joyful and continuing to encourage others in their faith.”

During the church service, members of the congregation shared testimonies of the ways God had been with them during the past year. One member, Alan, lost two brothers and his mother in 2020. He shared that Jesus has really given him strength during this time of grief.

Evelyn and Mario are church members who help to lead the youth group. The couple has been trying to have a baby for 12 years. Evelyn is now five months pregnant! She testified that it was God who gave them this child, and she praised God for His faithfulness.

“We are so thankful to have a faithful God who is always with us and will never leave us,” said Mary Alice. “He always provides us with everything that we need and even more than we could ever imagine!”
